Massimo Bortolato

Ciao!

My name is Massimo.
I started coding at a very young age by hacking gorilla.bas at a friend's house. And I never stopped since! 😜

I studied Computer Engineering at the University of Padua, graduating with top marks and completing a thesis on image processing algorithms at Vicon in Oxford.

I then worked for Nidek and later for iCare as a software developer for medical devices (image and data processing, backend software for device and exam cycle management).

Curiosity and the desire to continuously take on new challenges, learn, and gain as much experience as possible soon led me to pursue a freelance career.

I began working on a wide range of topics: quality control systems in the industrial sector, software for production line management, production tracking systems, CRM, and warehouse management software. I contributed to research projects in the medical and industrial fields, worked on aeronautical software, and experimented with ML/AI models for image processing and predictive signal analysis.

I have worked with or collaborated with engineering firms (TMC, Rina, MDA), automation companies (Tecnosint, IT Robotics, Tecnologica, Tecnoma) automotive companies (Sole, Irca), oil and gas (Pietro Fiorentini), defense (Leonardo), fashion (Vicenza Mode), food (Guidolce), medical (iCare, Haemotronic) and other companies involved in industrial production, metallurgy, amusement, and wood processing, such as BTicino, Mediaprofili, DeltaCoils, Zamperla, Stm, Omera.

Every new project brought along new elements, unknowns, and challenges, which I always tackled with great curiosity, keeping an open-minded approach without relying solely on the technologies I was already familiar with. Each new project has been an opportunity for me to explore a new programming language, a different framework, a new project management methodology, or an additional training course. Being curious and experimental by nature, I took advantage of every new assignment to learn something more and expand my knowledge base.

I regularly attend training courses on programming languages and frameworks, machine and deep learning, probability theory and statistics, project management, web security, and GDPR.

I primarily program in Erlang, Haskell, C++, Rust, Python, Javascript, SQL. I also know Go, C#, and Java.
